Rurality Newsletter - All Rustic News April 15, 2025 |
And we're off! Spring is now underway, and things are really starting to happen. Where I live now, on the east coast of Canada, fishing is a huge industry. I never realized how much went into the preparation of boats and lobster traps. April 15 2025Seeing my neighbor putting all this effort in, and all the financial outlay for all the moving parts makes me hopeful for the future, regardless of any tariffs or worries about markets for the produce of the sea.I have been occupied with plans for hedges, as well as dead hedges. If you haven't seen these in social media, you probably will soon. They're all over! The general gist of them is the two upright twigs or branches pounded into the ground in sequence, so that dead branches and twigs, whatever is pruned off your apple trees, dead ones that fall off the maples or oaks in your garden (or your neighbors) are stacked in between. Not only is this excellent wildlife habitat for birds and small mammals and insects, it also looks incredibly cool.
