The middle of August already! Where does the time go? I've got a good excuse, I have a new puppy, so that takes up a lot of time and energy. They're only small once, so I'm making sure that he's got a good foundation in manners and all the things a good dog needs to know.

The big thing at this time of year is yard saling. That's driving around in the early morning to hit on garage sales, or yard sales before all the 'good' stuff is gone. There is a knack to getting the best garage sale gleanings and that is looking past the dross to find those gems, or diamonds in the rough. I've been lucky enough to find a couple of things that appeal to me at yard sales, and sometimes the owner offers me more, for a very low price or even free. Just make sure to ask, 'how much do you want for that?' even if it's not on the sale table. You never know.

Then what do you do with your finds? I like to display them for a while, if I didn't have the exact right project for them at first. Keep them within eyesight so your brain will continue to work at it while you're doing other things. The subliminal mind is an amazing thing.
