I'm happy with the plant propagation that's been happening. So far, I have four native plant seeds in winter sowing mode, in a small amount of soil in recycled containers, in the cold to get their stratification.

Without this critical cold period, many native wild plants won't germinate, sometimes going into secondary dormancy, meaning that they won't germinate until they go through a second cold period. I don't have the patience for that!

I want instant results, and so do the butterflies.

All four of these plants are known for their magnetic appeal for butterflies, including the endangered Monarch. With luck, these will grow enough this year to flower next summer, bringing lots of flying flowers to feast on their nectar.

New grow lights seem to be a good investment, one that previously, I had no experience with. These are Barrina brand LED lights, hung by hooks on a wire shelf unit. So far, so good.
