Rurality Newsletter - All Rustic News November 15, 2024 |
We moved into our new home a year ago, but it seems like yesterday. So many projects to work on, so little time. November 15 2024One of the latest projects was to remove the crumbling chimney, an oversight on our part, as we didn't get a building inspection done at the time we purchased. My recommendation? Pay the money and get one if you're buying an older home. Or any home, come to that. One of the first things we did was to plant some willows, and a native plant hedge, which consists of Shepherdia canadensis, or buffalo berry, which I use for making these little faux birds nests , and willows of various kinds so I can make other crafts from them. There are many uses of salix twigs , including our latest project which we designed to go around the porch railings, and also as a yard fence to keep the puppy in. Find our more about our rope and twig fencing . I'll be uploading more pictures of it as the project progresses. We still have a short window, even if the snow flies, to insert the branches into the rope. The hedge also consists of a native maple, some red osier dogwood, and more will be added to it over the next year or so. What kinds of projects do you plan to finish this year? Or will they get deferred until next season? My extensive list keeps growing, but it's so satisfying to check off the tasks that get completed.
