Rurality Newsletter - All Rustic News October 01, 2024 |
I love to walk in the woods, collecting pine cones or other seed pods, and also twigs. I look for any twigs that could be potentially made into a craft, especially if they are twisted or otherwise interesting. October 1 2024I carry a few items with me when wildcrafting, because you never know what you will run into. If you had to have just one item, what would it be? For me it would have to be my Felco 17 Loppers, which are small enough to put in a backpack as they only measure 17 inches, but mighty enough to cut through a good sized twig. For branches, you would need a folding pruning saw or something similar, but that's out of the scope right now.

The loppers I have were bought sometime in the 1980's when I first started getting into the twiggy world. They have certainly done good service for me, never needing anything other than a good cleaning with steel wool and WD40. I've never had to change blades in all that time, although someone did jam them into the ground as a way to hold them. They caught it for that! I treat all my tools as though they are precious, never leaving them out in the rain or letting them get rusty.
